In general, I aim for stainless steel or glass straws, especially for daily use at home, and I like when the product is clear about what it’s made from and easy to clean well.

What I avoid in straws

I avoid single-use plastic straws and “compostable” style straws when the materials aren’t clearly disclosed. I’m also cautious about straws with coatings, dyes, or finishes that can wear off, and I prefer anything that’s easy to fully clean inside. If there’s a soft tip involved, I want it to be clearly labeled as food-grade.

What I like

I like that the main straw is stainless steel, which is one of my preferred materials for reusables. I also appreciate that the silicone tips are removable, so you can clean everything thoroughly. One quick note for transparency: 18-8 stainless steel is a common food-grade stainless steel and contains nickel. If you’re nickel-sensitive, you may prefer a nickel-free stainless steel option (such as 18/0) or glass.
