Primally Pure Everything Balm

Important note on balms

Balms are leave-on skin products that typically remain in contact with the skin for extended periods. I pay attention to the ingredient list and how clearly each component is stated so I know what I’m putting on my skin. A simple, purposeful formula with recognizable materials is what I look for in this category.

What I look for

In skincare balms, I look for short, clearly stated ingredient lists with recognizable oils, butters, waxes, and extracts. I pay attention to preservative choices and avoid complex preservative systems when a simpler, more transparent approach is available. I also watch for ingredients that aren’t necessary in a balm (e.g., PEGs, ethoxylated ingredients, synthetic dyes, petroleum-based ingredients like mineral oil or petrolatum, and harsh additives).

What I like

I like that the ingredient list is short and clearly stated, with a focus on nourishing oils, beeswax, and botanicals rather than fillers. Everything in the formula serves a recognizable purpose, and the simple composition makes it easier to understand what you’re applying.

EWG rating is a 1 (when the ingredients are entered into the EWG ingredient analyzer).

Things to keep in mind

This balm contains essential oils (organic lavender and tea tree). Essential oils can sometimes carry trace contaminants depending on sourcing and processing, which is why I prioritize products that use high-quality, safety-tested oils. Skin tolerance varies, so a patch test can be helpful if you’re sensitive or new to essential oil–based skincare.
