For me, an ideal hand soap cleans well without relying on harsh foaming agents, undisclosed fragrance blends, or preservatives that can irritate skin with repeated use. I prefer soaps that rinse clean and feel comfortable without stripping natural moisture.

What I avoid in hand soaps

For this category, I avoid undisclosed or toxic fragrance blends, harsh surfactants like SLS/SLES, ethoxylated ingredients (such as PEGs or other “-eth” ingredients), cocamidopropyl betaine (a common irritant), methylisothiazolinone (MIT) and related preservatives, quaternary ammonium compounds (quats), dimethicone, and antibacterial additives. I’m looking for transparent, simple formulas built around gentle cleansers and conditioning botanicals — not extra chemistry that isn’t necessary for effective handwashing. I also avoid optical brighteners and unnecessary foaming boosters that don’t support gentle daily use.

What I like

Things to keep in mind

Because this is an herbal soap with minimal additives, the texture and suds may feel different than conventional high-foam soaps — that’s normal and doesn’t impact performance.

If you prefer a lightly scented hand soap, plant-derived essential oils are used in the scented versions, but I only recommend those if you’re comfortable with essential-oil scent disclosure.
