Molly’s Suds Wool Dryer Balls (Unscented)

Important note on dryer sheets

This is one category where I recommend skipping dryer sheets altogether. Most dryer sheets are designed to coat fabrics with softening agents and fragrance so clothes feel smooth when they come out of the dryer. That coating doesn’t rinse out easily and can build up over time.

Many conventional dryer sheets rely on fragrance blends and quaternary ammonium compounds (quats), which are commonly associated with skin irritation, respiratory irritation, headaches, and sensitivity issues for some people. Because dryer sheets are heat-activated, those chemicals are released into the air during the drying cycle and then transferred directly onto clothing, towels, and bedding.

If you want softer clothes and less static without coating your fabrics or inhaling heated fragrance residue, dryer balls are a simpler option.

What I avoid in fabric softening products

In this category, I avoid dryer sheets and fabric softeners that contain undisclosed or toxic fragrance blends and quaternary ammonium compounds. I also avoid products that leave a film on fabrics to create softness, as that residue can trap odors, reduce absorbency, and increase skin contact with ingredients that don’t need to be there.

Product description

Molly’s Suds Wool Dryer Balls are reusable, unscented dryer balls made from 100% sheep’s wool. They work by improving airflow and keeping laundry moving in the dryer, which helps soften fabrics naturally and reduce static without relying on fragrance or chemical softeners.

This is one of the easiest swaps to make if you’re trying to move away from dryer sheets while still wanting laundry to feel finished and comfortable.

What I like

I like that these are truly unscented and don’t rely on fragrance or softening agents.

They soften clothes and reduce static without leaving residue behind.

They’re reusable for a long time, which simplifies laundry and reduces waste.

Things to keep in mind

Wool dryer balls don’t add scent or mask odors. Clean laundry starts with detergent and proper washing.

If you’re used to fabric softener, it may take a few loads for fabrics to lose that coated feel and return to a cleaner rinse.
