Important note on crib sheets

Crib sheets get a lot of use, a lot of washing, and a lot of skin contact. When I’m choosing crib sheets, I prioritize clear materials, simple construction, and finishes that don’t rely on added “performance” treatments. I also keep laundry in mind, because what’s on fabric can move through washing and drying and end up on other items in the same load.

What I avoid in bedding

When choosing bedding, I avoid synthetic fabrics and blends, along with wrinkle-resistant, stain-resistant, or antimicrobial finishes. I also avoid flame-retardant treatments, which are sometimes added to bedding to meet flammability standards. These have included chemicals like PBDEs in the past, and I prefer bedding that meets safety needs through fiber choice and construction rather than added treatments. I’m also mindful of easy-care finishes that can rely on formaldehyde-based resins.

What I like

Things to keep in mind

With frequent washing, crib sheets can wear faster than adult bedding, so rotating between multiple sheets helps. I also stick with a gentle, fragrance-free detergent and lower-heat drying when I can to help fabrics hold up over time.
