GreenPan Electric Grill & Griddle
Important Note on Waffle Makers & Griddles
When I’m choosing an electric griddle or waffle maker, I focus on what the food is actually touching and how heat is applied. Almost every option on the market relies on either traditional nonstick coatings or ceramic nonstick surfaces. There are very few appliances in this category that fully align with my low-tox criteria.
Because of that, options like this fall into the “next best” category for this type of appliance.
Product Description
The GreenPan Electric Grill & Griddle features removable, reversible grill and griddle plates made with Thermolon Volt, GreenPan’s ceramic nonstick coating. This is a ceramic-based coating that is PFAS-free, PFOA-free, lead-free, and cadmium-free.
The plates are designed to heat evenly and release food more easily than uncoated metal surfaces, while avoiding traditional PTFE- or Teflon-based nonstick coatings. The plates are also dishwasher safe, which helps simplify cleanup after regular use.
What I Like
I like that GreenPan uses a ceramic nonstick coating that avoids PFAS and other materials commonly found in traditional nonstick surfaces.
I also appreciate that the plates are removable and reversible, which adds flexibility depending on what you’re cooking. This feels like a realistic compromise in a category where fully uncoated options are limited.
Things to Keep in Mind
Ceramic nonstick still requires a bit of care to maintain performance over time, including avoiding high heat and metal utensils.
This is a good option for someone looking to reduce exposure to traditional nonstick coatings while understanding that most appliances in this category rely on some type of coated surface.
