eplanita Natural Plant-Based Scrub Sponges
Important note on kitchen sponges
With dish sponges, I focus on reducing plastic exposure where it actually matters while still choosing tools that work for everyday cleanup. Avoiding every polymer isn’t realistic, but I do try to steer clear of sponges made primarily from petroleum-based synthetic foams or hard-plastic scrub layers, especially for tools that come into contact with dishes and food surfaces.
What I look for instead are sponges whose main cleaning materials are plant-based, and whose scrub side is made from a natural fiber rather than rigid plastic.
Product description
The eplanita scrub sponges are made with a plant-based cellulose sponge paired with a sisal fiber scrub side. The cellulose side handles everyday wiping and suds, while the sisal side provides scrubbing power for stuck-on food without relying on plastic abrasives.
They’re a practical option if you want to move away from fully synthetic sponges but still need something durable enough for daily dishwashing.
What I like
I like that the primary cleaning surfaces are plant-based.
Things to keep in mind
The sisal side is more textured than a standard sponge, so lighter pressure works best on delicate surfaces.
As with any dish sponge, letting it dry fully between uses and replacing it regularly helps keep things fresh.
