Verdana Organic Cutting Board & Butcher Block Oil

Important note on cutting board oils

When it comes to maintaining surfaces that regularly touch food, I pay just as much attention to the care products as I do the materials themselves. I’m intentional about what I use here because oils can sit on the surface of wood, counters, and tools that come into direct contact with food.

What I avoid in cutting board oils

I personally avoid oils that contain petroleum-based mineral oil, synthetic fragrance, or fragrance blends that aren’t clearly disclosed. I also skip formulas with added preservatives, dyes, palm oil, soy-derived fillers, or vague “proprietary blends” where sourcing isn’t transparent. If an oil isn’t clearly food-grade, that’s an automatic no for me.

Product description

Verdana’s Cutting Board & Butcher Block Oil is a coconut-derived, food-grade oil designed to condition and protect wood surfaces. While it’s marketed for cutting boards and butcher blocks, I also use it to clean and maintain my butcher block countertops and stainless steel appliances.

On wood, it helps prevent drying and cracking while keeping the surface looking clean and refreshed. On stainless steel, a very small amount buffed in and wiped off helps remove fingerprints and restore shine without leaving residue. It’s one of those multipurpose products that earns its spot under the sink because it works across multiple surfaces without introducing unnecessary ingredients.

What I like

I like that this oil is coconut-derived and food-grade, making it appropriate for surfaces that come into direct contact with food.

I also appreciate that it works beyond cutting boards, including butcher block counters and stainless steel appliances, which helps simplify what I’m using in my kitchen.

The certifications listed by the brand add clarity that’s often missing in cutting board and surface maintenance oils.

Things to keep in mind

This oil is meant to condition and protect, not coat. A small amount goes a long way. Apply lightly, let it absorb, and wipe away any excess so surfaces don’t feel oily or slippery.
