Oneida Everyday Stainless Steel Flatware Set
Important note on flatware
When I’m choosing flatware, I avoid silver-plated options, mystery metal blends, and anything with coatings or decorative finishes. I want the surface touching my food to be straightforward stainless steel, with the grade clearly stated so there’s no guessing about what’s actually in it.
Notes on choosing stainless steel for your kitchen
The type of stainless steel matters, especially if you’re trying to avoid nickel or other metals that can cause sensitivity. Stainless steel is graded by composition. Lower-nickel options, such as 18/0 stainless steel (18% chromium, 0% nickel), are often preferred by people who want to minimize nickel exposure. Higher-nickel grades such as 18/8 or 18/10 are very common and generally considered food-safe, but they do contain nickel. When brands clearly list the grade, it’s much easier to choose what aligns with your priorities.
Materials
This flatware set is made from 18/0 stainless steel, which is a nickel-free style of stainless steel. There are no plated layers, coatings, or decorative finishes on the food-contact surfaces.
What I like
I like that this set uses 18/0 stainless steel, since that’s the type many people look for when they’re trying to limit nickel exposure from everyday kitchen items. The design is simple, durable, and doesn’t rely on coatings to perform. Your food is only coming into contact with stainless steel.
Things to keep in mind
Because 18/0 stainless steel doesn’t contain nickel, it can be slightly less corrosion-resistant than higher-nickel grades over many years of heavy dishwasher use. With normal care, it still holds up well as an everyday flatware option.
