Start Here: Low-Tox Living Made Simpler

If you’re trying to create a healthier home, clean up your routines, and feel better day to day without overcomplicating everything, you’re in the right place.

Low-tox living is not about doing everything perfectly or replacing everything overnight. It’s about becoming more aware of what you use daily and making better choices over time.

This page will walk you through exactly where to begin so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

Why I created this

I’m Jada. I started as a green cleaner and organizer, working inside homes every day. Over time, I began to notice that some of the products I was using were not sitting well with me, especially when it came to breathing and skin irritation.

That experience shifted how I looked at what we use daily and what we bring into our homes.

As I navigated my own health challenges, that awareness deepened and became more intentional. I started simplifying what I used, paying closer attention to ingredients, and focusing on what actually made a difference.

This platform grew from that experience. My goal is to make low-tox living feel clear, realistic, and something you can actually stick with.

If you’re not sure where to begin, follow this

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start, this is how I would approach it.

Step 1: Start with what you clean with

Focus on the products you use every day. Cleaners, laundry detergents, and dish products are some of the easiest swaps to make and the least disruptive to your routine.

At the same time, it’s worth becoming more aware of your air and water quality. These are foundational to your environment, but you don’t need to overcomplicate it. Start simple and build from there.

This is where I recommend beginning because it’s practical, effective, and something you interact with daily.

Step 2: Personal care

This includes everyday essentials like deodorant, toothpaste, body care products, and other items you use consistently.

These are simple swaps that can fit into your routine without much disruption.

Step 3: Beauty and skincare

This includes skincare and makeup products you use regularly. These changes can take a little more time, so it helps to approach this step gradually.

Step 4: Your kitchen

Focus on what touches your food and water. Cookware, food storage, and drinkware are used constantly and are worth upgrading over time.

Step 5: Your home

Look at everyday items such as materials, textiles, and household goods. These changes can be made gradually as you’re able.

What I personally avoid

You don’t need to memorize everything. These are a few common ingredients I look out for on labels, along with simple ways to recognize them.

Undisclosed fragrance or parfum
Often listed as “fragrance” or “parfum” on labels. This can represent a blend of ingredients that are not individually disclosed.
Why I avoid it: I prefer to know exactly what is in the products I use.

Petroleum-based ingredients
Examples include mineral oil, petrolatum, and propylene glycol. Common in lotions, creams, and personal care products.
Why I avoid them: These are highly processed ingredients that I choose to limit in my daily routine.

PEGs and ethoxylated ingredients
Look for “PEG” in the name or ingredients ending in “-eth,” such as ceteareth or laureth.
Why I avoid them: These can be associated with manufacturing processes that may introduce unwanted residues.

Harsh preservatives like MIT and MCI
Listed as methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone. Often found in cleaning products and soaps.
Why I avoid them: These are known to be irritating for some people, especially with repeated use.

Artificial dyes and colorants
Usually labeled as FD&C or D&C colors, followed by a number such as Red 40 or Yellow 5.
Why I avoid them: They are typically used for appearance and do not add functional value.
