HiPP Dutch Stage 1 Organic Infant Formula
Important note
If you’re here, you’re likely trying to make the best possible choice for your baby, and that can feel overwhelming quickly. I’ve been there, and what I’ve learned is that there isn’t a perfect formula. What matters most is choosing one that supports your baby’s digestion, development, and overall health without adding unnecessary ingredients.
What I look for (and try to avoid)
When I’m choosing a formula, I try to keep it simple and focus on what actually matters. I look for organic dairy, lactose as the main carbohydrate, and some level of gut support like prebiotics or probiotics, since digestion plays such a big role early on.
At the same time, I try to avoid formulas that rely on added sugars like corn syrup, unnecessary fillers, or synthetic preservatives. These can show up under names like potassium sorbate, ascorbyl palmitate, or processed citric acid, and they’re not something I personally prioritize when there are other options available.

Product description
HiPP Dutch Stage 1 is an organic, milk-based formula designed for babies from birth. It uses lactose as the primary carbohydrate, which is closest to what’s naturally found in breast milk, and combines skimmed milk with whey to better match how milk proteins are structured.
It also includes prebiotics and probiotics to help support gut health, along with DHA and ARA to support brain and eye development. Overall, the formulation feels more balanced and intentional, without relying on added sugars or overly complex ingredients.
What I like
• It uses lactose instead of added sugars, which is one of the first things I look for
• The combination of prebiotics and probiotics supports gut health early on
• Organic dairy helps reduce overall exposure to pesticides
• The ingredient list feels more thoughtful and less overloaded than many conventional formulas
• It avoids a lot of the fillers and additives I typically see in other options
Things to keep in mind
Even with cleaner formulas, this is still a processed product, and I always like to keep that in perspective. Palm oil is included, which some parents choose to avoid depending on digestion or personal preference, and DHA comes from fish oil, so sourcing and quality still matter.
Every baby is different, so what works really well for one may not work the same for another. If you’re switching formulas, it’s normal for there to be a short adjustment period while their system adapts.
