What I like:
EWG Rating: 4, which is driven primarily by aspen bark extract (natural salicylate source with contamination and irritation considerations) and the presence of citrus essential oils, not by synthetic toxins.
This cleanser is built on a high-aloe base, which makes it very calming and hydrating for the skin.
Coconut-derived surfactants cleanse without the harsh stripping associated with conventional sulfates.
The formula includes a wide range of herbal extracts like calendula, lemon balm, neem, olive leaf, and helichrysum that support skin balance and barrier health.
Vegetable glycerin helps maintain hydration during cleansing.
The ingredient profile is free from petroleum-derived surfactants, synthetic fragrance, parabens, PFAS, and plastic polymers.
Things to keep in mind:
This cleanser contains multiple essential oils, including citrus, lavender, and rosemary, which can be irritating for very sensitive or reactive skin types.
Aspen bark extract is a natural preservative, but it contributes to the higher EWG score due to salicylate-related sensitivity and contamination flags.
This formula is not fragrance-free, even though the scent comes from botanical oils.
If you are extremely sensitive, compromised, or acne-prone, this may feel too active for daily use.
Pregnancy / Breastfeeding Notes:
Aloe vera, coconut oil, vegetable glycerin, calendula, lemon balm, neem, olive leaf, and rosemary extract are generally considered low risk and pregnancy-compatible for topical skincare use.
Aspen bark extract contains naturally occurring salicylates; while topical cosmetic exposure is low, some pregnancy-safe practitioners recommend minimizing salicylates, especially in leave-on products.
Lavender, citrus, and rosemary essential oils are present at cosmetic levels; although not classified as reproductive toxins, many practitioners recommend minimizing their use during the first trimester, especially on highly sensitive skin.
This cleanser contains no retinoids, synthetic salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, PFAS, formaldehyde releasers, or petroleum-derived preservatives.
Because this is a rinse-off product, systemic exposure is significantly lower than that of leave-on treatments.
As always, patch testing is recommended, especially during pregnancy and postpartum, when skin reactivity can increase.
